Celtics Targeting All-Star Kevin Love in Trade, per Reports

Monday, May 19, 2014

The Boston Celtics hope to make a trade for All-Star big man Kevin Love this offseason, per multiple reports.

Kevin Love

The 25-year-old Love is a 3-time NBA All-Star and widely regarded as one of the top big men in the league today. The 6’10” power forward has the range to shoot 3-pointers and is one of the top passers and rebounders at his position.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have been hesitant to listen to offers for Love but have decided to open up the phone lines this offseason. Love plans to opt out of his contract, become a free agent, and leave Minnesota at the end of next season.

The Celtics have accumulated young players and draft picks as General Manager Danny Ainge retools the roster around point guard Rajon Rondo and Head Coach Brad Stevens. The package of players and picks the Celtics would need to put together for Love presumably centers around Jared Sullinger and Boston’s first round pick in this year’s draft, which will be revealed at Tuesday’s draft lottery.

Love boasts career averages of 19.2 points and 12.2 rebounds per game. He’s a 45% shooter from the field, a 36% shooter from the 3-point line, and an 82% free throw shooter for his career. He reportedly is intrigued by playing for the Golden State Warriors and Chicago Bulls, but the Celtics are considered one of the favorites to land his services.

Love would likely have to agree to sign an extension with the Celtics in order for Ainge to make the trade.
