Celts Teach Miami Another Lesson / Habs Beat the B’s in Boston

Friday, November 12, 2010

It was a DVR and “last channel” type of night for Boston sports fans Thursday. With the Celtics visiting the Miami Heat and the Bruins hosting rival Montreal, the dilemma was: what to watch?

Celtics – Heat had a little more pizzazz so they got the edge. And it’s a good thing. Boston’s old “big three,” once again, showed Miami’s young “big three” exactly how it’s done.

Ray Allen was sizzling hot hitting 7 of 9 from “3” for a game-high 35 points in Boston’s 112-107 over the Heat.

The final score was not indicative of how this game was played. The Celtics controlled the game from start to finish leading by double digits most of the way.

Paul Pierce scored 25, Kevin Garnett had 16 points and 13 rebounds while Rajon Rondo chipped in with 8 points and 16 assists.

Miami was led by LeBron James who also scored 35. James, however, was just 9 of 21 from the field and 0-5 from “3”.

Dwayne Wade was disappointing on both ebds of the floor for Miami. He scored only 8 points on 2 of 12 shooting. He also got torched by Allen on the other end of the floor.

The win lifted Boston’s record to (7-2) and dropped Miami to a pedestrian (5-4).

If Miami is serious about wanting to win a championship, they had better get improved point guard play and more of a presence down low. Otherwise this new “big three” may go down as one of the most overrated and underachieving units in the history of professional sports.

Meanwhile at the TD Garden, the B’s and Habs renewed acquaintances. The two teams traded first period goals with Zdeno Chara lighting the lamp for Boston tying the game at one.

After a scoreless second period, Montreal scored twice in the third as former Boston College product Brian Gionta beat Tuukka Rask to put the Canadiens up 2-1. Scott Gomez made it 3-1 Montreal which was the final.

Montreal goaltender Carey Price was the #1 star of the game stopping 34 of the 35 Bruins shots he faced.

Boston now trails Montreal by 4 points in the Northeast Division. The Bruins do, however, have three games in hand on Montreal.
