Cornell Beats Brown 91-79

Sunday, February 06, 2011

One night after freshman Sean McGonagill electrified the crown at Brown’s Pizzatola Center in a win over Columbia, the Bears were hoping to complete the weekend sweep with a victory over Cornell. Unfortunately, the Big Red had other ideas. Cornell knocked down 16 three’s on their way to a 91-79 victory.

There must be something about the Pizz that the Big Red likes. They knocked down a school-record 20 three’s last season at Brown. That’s 36 three’s in their last two trips to Providence.

The loss spoiled a solid effort by Bears’ sophomore forward Tucker Halpern who tied his career-high with 26 points. Halpers also grabbed 9 rebounds and dished out 5 assists in the loss.

Freshmen Sean McGonagill (11 pts, 7 assists) and Dockery Walker (10 pts) were the only other Brown players in double figures.

Drew Ferry’s 20 points paced Cornell who won for the first time in Ivy League play this season. The Big Red improves to (5-15, 1-5 Ivy Lg). Brown fell to (8-12, 1-5 Ivy Lg).

The Bears hit the road next weekend traveling to Dartmouth Friday and Harvard on Saturday.

Senior co-captain Peter Sullivan may be getting closer to returning to the line-up after dislocating his right shoulder last weekend at Princeton. Sullivan was seen shooting around before the game last night at the Pizz.
