Rhode Island Runners Look Good in Cox Rhode Races
Coventry’s Michaela Driscoll, winner of the 2009 Cox Sports Marathon, was the top female in the Harpoon 5k at the Cox Rhode Races on Sunday in Downcity Providence. The thirty-year-old Driscoll, who is becoming a power in New England running won in a time of 18:37.
The race drew thousands to Providence and helped to bring the community together to promote fitness. The combination of summer-like temperatures and more than 5,000 runners created a sports event success for the third annual Cox Providence Rhode Races. The event featured three races - Cox Sports Marathon, Shape Up RI Half Marathon and the Harpoon 5k.
But Driscoll was not the only Rhode Islander to make the locals proud, Cumberland’s Chris Magill was the winner of the Harpoon 5k for the third consecutive year. Magill, 36, took the title in 16:46.
