Duke Mondy Released By PC

Friday, May 20, 2011

You read it here first that Providence College men's basketball coach Ed Cooley apparently wasn't happy with some of the players he inherited from the previous coaching staff and that some may be released from the team soon.  Today, the first domino fell as sophomore guard Duke Mondy was released by the team.  The school did not give an official reason for his release.

Mondy finished this past season on a 4-game suspension for reasons which were not released by the school.  Speculation was rampant that Mondy may have been involved in an incident with another PC student and that authorities investigated and found no grounds for charges to be filed.

Mondy was also involved in an incident as a freshman when he was with teammates James Still and Johnnie Lacy when they assaulted another PC student for no reason.  Both Still and Lacy were charged with assault by authorities but Mondy was not.

Mondy may not be the last Friar to go.  Ed Cooley is a man who preaches both discipline and respect.  If that is something that his players cannot or will not buy into, they will not be playing for him at PC.
