Friars Wake Up And Dominate Second Half In 92-57 Rout Of Central Conn.

Tuesday, November 30, 2010

It wasn’t the greatest first half for the PC Friars last night at the Dunk. But PC came out firing after halftime and rolled over Central Connecticut 92-57.

The Friars jumped out to an early 13-2 lead to start the game and appeared to be on their way to a relaxing night and easy victory. But a 27-7 run by the Blue Devils put the visitors up 29-20 with 6 minutes to go in the first half leading for some anxious moments for Friar fans.

Providence seemed to struggle a bit against Central’s 1-3-1 zone in the first half committing 7 turnovers while shooting 40% from the field and just 27% from three.

But Keno Davis and his staff made some halftime adjustments and the Friars dissected the Central defense in the second half to the tune of 64% shooting overall and 50% from three.

Providence was helped by their pressure defense which caused 13 second half turnovers by Central Connecticut.

Senior Marshon Brooks led the Friars with a game-high 26 points. He was followed by the reigning Big East rookie of the week in freshman Gerard Coleman who finished with 14. Coleman’s athleticism helped him slash through the Blue Devils defense and get to the basket for many high percentage shots.

Sophomore Duke Mondy provided a nice spark off the bench with 13 points. Mondy went 3-6 from three point range.

The Friars (6-1) get right back at it Wednesday night at home against Northeastern. The Huskies upset Providence in their last visit to the Dunk two years ago.
