NEW: Aaron Hernandez Charged With Murder + 5 Gun-Related Charges

Hernandez arrived at Attleboro District Court around 2pm for his arraignment after being arrested early this morning in his North Attleborough home. Hours after being arrested, the New England Patriots announced that the team had released Hernandez. "A young man was murdered last week and we extend our sympathies to the family and friends who mourn his loss. Words cannot express the disappointment we feel knowing that one of our players was arrested as a result of this investigation," said the statement. "We realize that law enforcement investigations into this matter are ongoing. We support their efforts and respect the process. At this time, we believe this transaction is simply the right thing to do."
The body of Odin Lloyd, a linebacker for the semi-pro Boston Bandits, was found by a jogger in an industrial park less than a mile from Hernandez's home. He was shot execution-style. His death was ruled a homicide, and police have been investigating the athlete ever since. His house and surrounding land including some forestry and a pond have been searched at least twice. Reports indicate that a gun had been found in a wooded area down the road from Hernandez's house.
Originally, reports surfaced that Hernandez was not a suspect in the case, but as details were discovered–including the fact a rental vehicle with Rhode Island plates was found near the scene, rented in his name–the more Hernandez became suspect with some degree of involvement. It has also been reported the Hernandez got rid of his cell phone, and video surveillance system, as well as having his home thoroughly cleaned.
Hernandez has been no stranger to the law over the years, and has had a lot of trouble keeping his nose clean. He was involved in several altercations as recent as earlier this month, and has failed multiple drug tests. Additionally, Hernandez faces another huge legal problem through the reports of a civil lawsuit being filed over a February shooting that caused a victim to lose sight in one eye. But his troubles have finally caught up with him, and for now, the former tight end will be held in police custody without bail.
