RI’s Vladine Biosse to Defend Title
Saturday, August 21, 2010
The former URI football defensive back is the current New England Super Middleweight Champion with a 7-0 (with 4 KOs) career record. Biosse moved from Cape Verde to Providence as a teen, where he starred in soccer, football and track at Hope High School. Biosse has only been in seven professional fights and only one of them has been an eight-rounder, but is undefeated and deemed an up-and-coming boxing star. In his last tilt on July 9th, he pulverized “Irish” Joey McCreedy in a unanimous decision win in front of 40 million homes, who were tuned into ESPN’s “Fight Night Fights.”
Undercard
The undercard will showcase two interstate tilts, which are always exciting because the local fans intensify the arena. Woonsocket’s Joe Gardner (5-1-1, 1 KO) faces New Bedford’s Eric Oinarreta (2-4, 2 KOs) in a 4-round super middleweight bout. Providence’s Rameil Shelton takes on Fall River’s (MA) Dustin Reinhold (2-1, 2 KOs) in Shelton's pro debut..
The undercard will also feature a number of other solid New England fighters including RI natives Eric Estrada (1-0, 1 KO), Jesus Caro (5-0, 4 KOs) and James Smith. Estrada, a Providence firefighter, is the younger brother of former 2004 U.S. Olympian Jason “Big Six” Estrada and Smith is a Marine who’s making his pro boxing debut. Other boxers on the undercard are heavyweight Jesse Barboza (3-1, 3 KOs) and super lightweight Jonathan Vazquez (1-0, 1 KO).
