It should come as no surprise that Patriots coach Bill Belichick told his players yesterday to not engage in a war of words with Rex Ryan and the New York Jets this week.
While Ryan continues to fire shots New England’s way, the Patriots remain somewhat quiet. Instead, they will let their play on the field Sunday speak for itself. It’s an interesting juxtaposition between the the two head coaches and the way they go about their business.
Which style is the right one? I suppose the answer to that question will come Sunday night between 7 and 8 o’clock.
-I have to admit that I was a bit surprised to find out that Tom Brady didn’t watch the Jets-Colts game live Saturday night. I know I wouldn’t have missed it for a Broadway show.
-After a 4-goal 3rd period outburst in Pittsburgh Monday night, the Bruins offense continued its strong play last night by pummeling the Ottowa Senators 6-0 at the Garden.
-Jets QB Mark Sanchez has thrown only 1 TD since his team’s week 12 win over Cincinnati. That’s 1 TD in five games. (He didn’t play in week 17 vs. Buffalo)
-During that same stretch, Sanchez has been intercepted 6 times. And you don’t think that the Jets want to run the football Sunday?
-I thought that Rich Rodriguez was fired because, among other things, he wasn’t a Michigan guy. What year did Brady Hoke finish his undergraduate work in Ann Arbor?
-Waiting until January 10th to play college football’s BCS Championship game is absurd!
-Having said that, give credit to the Auburn Tigers. They are the fifth consecutive SEC school to win college football’s national title.
-Are the Philadelphia Eagles sure that Michael Vick is the long term answer at QB after the way he and the team finished the season?
-No one could have blamed Pete Carroll if he had walked off the field Saturday giving the one-fingered salute to all of those who felt his (7-9) Seahawks had no right being in the postseason, much less hosting a playoff game.
-It looks like Jon Gruden and Bill Cowher may keep their TV gigs for at least another year.
-Remember when the Celtics beat the Heat twice early in the season? Miami now leads Boston for the best record in the Eastern Conference.
-Blake Griffin was a great player at Oklahoma, but did anyone think that he would be this much of a stud in the pros?
-You heard it here first: Mark Whipple is going to be a great hire for UConn football.
-It has become evident that this year’s URI men’s basketball team is not as good as we thought it would be.
-Steve Donahue has lost more games against Ivy League teams this year (2) at Boston College than he did all of last year as the head coach at Cornell.
-And Boston College is (3-0) in the ACC and (0-2) in the Ivy League. Go figure!
-Speaking of Ivy League basketball, the Brown Bears open up their Ivy schedule Saturday at home against Yale at 2pm.
-Most Rhode Islanders stock up on bread and milk before a winter storm. I prefer Ring Dings and Diet Coke. But that’s just me.
