Shaughnessy To Speak At Old Sturbridge Village

Shaughnessy is a well-known sports columnist for the Boston Globe whose opinions have influenced New England sports fans for many years. He first started working at the Globe in 1981.
Shaughnessy is also a noted author whose booke include "The Curse of the Bambino," "Reversing the Curse" and his latest best-seller "Francona: The Red Sox Years" which has spent 8 weeks on the NY Times best-seller list.
There are very few, if any, members of the New England sports media who have covered our local sports franchises more closely than Shaughnessy over the years and he will likely share many of his experiences with those who attend the event on the 25th.

STURBRIDGE, Mass. (April 1, 2013): Award-winning Boston Globe sportswriter Dan Shaughnessy, co-author of the new book, Francona: The Red Sox Years, will speak at Old Sturbridge Village on Thursday, April 25, as part of the Village's continuing OSV Overseers' Distinguished Speaker Series. Shaughnessy will meet the public at 6:00 p.m. and will give a presentation at 7:00 p.m. The book he co-wrote with former Boston Red Sox manager Terry "Tito" Francona has been on the New York Times best-seller list for eight weeks.
The evening with Dan Shaughnessy includes baseball-themed snacks, and a cash bar is available. Tickets purchased in advance are $20 / $18 for OSV Members; tickets at the door on April 25 are $25 / $23 for OSV Members. All proceeds benefit the living history museum. Copies of the book may be pre-purchased from the Old Sturbridge Village bookstore to be signed for $28 / $25.20 for OSV Members. Shaughnessy has written many books about the Red Sox, including The Legend of the Curse of the Bambino, which chronicled the team's troubles after trading the legendary Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees. Among his other titles are Reversing the Curse and At Fenway: Dispatches from Red Sox Nation. After graduating from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Shaughnessy began sports writing career at the Baltimore Sun covering the Baltimore Orioles, and moved to the Boston Globe in 1981.

Old Sturbridge Village celebrates life in early New England from 1790 – 1840. Located just off the Massachusetts Turnpike and Routes I-84 and 20 in Sturbridge, Mass., OSV is open year-round, but days and hours vary seasonally.
