Son-Uva Digger Makes Worcester Debut at Monster Trucks This Weekend

Wednesday, February 11, 2015

Monster Jam is barreling into the DCU Center this weekend and 'Son-Uva Digger' will be making its Worcester debut. Son-Uva Digger's driver Ryan Anderson, son of Grave Digger driver Dennis Anderson, is excited for the opportunity to excite the Worcester crowd.

“I know from what I’ve seen, they (Worcester) don’t expect a normal show. They expect high action, loud and all-out, just crazy. I don’t really know how to explain it, but they expect us to go crazy. It’s not just going to be one high-end show, it’s going to be multiple high-end shows. It’s going to be a good time for us," said Anderson.

This year the DCU Center will host 10 trucks, the most ever in Worcester.

Approximately 12 feet tall and about 12 feet wide, Monster Jam trucks are custom-designed machines that sit atop 66-inch-tall tires and weigh a minimum of 10,000 pounds. Built for short, high-powered bursts of speed, Monster Jam trucks generate 1,500 to 2,000 horsepower and are capable of speeds of up to 100 miles per hour. Monster Jam trucks can fly up to 125 to 130 feet (a distance greater than 14 cars side by side) and up to 35 feet in the air.

“It’s all going to be off the hip. All I can say is you can expect a good show. It’s all part of the gig. You can never really plan on what’s going to happen and if you try to you end up making a fool out of yourself. These people are spending their hard earned money watching us, so we need to make sure they get the best," said Anderson.

For the young fans, the DCU Center will also be the only place to meet the drivers and see the trucks up close. The "Party in the Pits" is on Saturday from 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Anderson understands the importance of being available for younger fans.

“It’s super important to me. It’s job security. Anytime we can capture a young fan’s attention, it’s good for the job," said Anderson.

As a kid himself, Anderson used to watch his father drive Grave Digger. He is now following in the footsteps of his dad. “It’s really important to me that it’s a family thing for me. We were born and bred to do this. I have no idea what else I would do. I was trained to be a Monster Truck driver. If I couldn’t do that, I don’t even know if I would be any good at bagging groceries. It’s not that I didn’t have a choice, but to me there really was no other choice.”

When he gets to Worcester, Anderson wants to see some sites.“I have family from Massachusetts, but I’ve never been to Worcester. I want to see the sights, talk with people and meet everyone involved. There’s a big following there for my dad, and now it’s going to be the fans first chance to see me and ‘Son-Uva Digger’. It’s going to be big for all of us. It’s something the whole team is looking forward to.”
