Thoughts of a Diehard Red Sox Fan Watching Sox/Yanks

Saturday, August 07, 2010

Many times while watching a ballgame, I’ll jot down some notes of what I think are important or pivotal moments in that game.  This helps me collect my thoughts for when I put together another one of my award-winning (a-hem) columns here on GoLocalProv.com.

Today, however, I decided to share with you my actual thoughts while watching game 1 of the Red Sox/Yankees series.  They are unfiltered and, I’d be willing to bet, similar to the thoughts of many other Red Sox fans who watched the game last night.  So, without further ado, here you are:

-Not feeling great about the Sox chances to win enough games in this series to make a difference.  A 4-game sweep would be outstanding, but I’d settle for 3 out of 4.  I don’t know why, but I feel like a 2-2 split is the best the Sox will do.  I sure hope that I’m wrong!

-Big Papi goes yard in the first! Yea-yuh!  Memories of the 2004 ALCS.  Ahhh, the good old days!

-I knew it was too good to be true!  Texiera belted a 2-run shot off of Buchholz in the bottom of the first to put the Yankees up 2-1.  Why the hell didn’t Theo and the Red Sox offer him a few million more two years ago?  He should be wearing a Boston uniform.

-Javier Vazquez just walked Jacoby Ellsbury to force in the tying run in the top of the second.  Now Marco Scutaro just  drove in two more with a double to put the Sox up 4-2.  Why did Brian Cashman think that one good year in Atlanta would help this guy be a better pitcher for the Yankees a second time around?  Doesn’t he know that a starting pitcher’s success in the National League means nothing when he jumps to the American League?

-Oh no!  The Yankees have 2-on and nobody out in the bottom of the fourth.  Here we go.

-You gotta love Mike Lowell!  He just turned a double play which helped Buchholz out of a jam.  I still can’t believe that the Red Sox treated him like a piece of trash until Youkilis got hurt.

-A-Fraud just pulled the Yankees to within one, 4-3.  Pardon me if I can’t get excited about his 600 homeruns.  These records in baseball today mean nothing to me.  And I would say the same thing if it were David Ortiz who hit his 600th.  I feel bad for guys like Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth.  Their records are legit!

-Thinking more about A-Rod and today’s modern athlete.  The sad part is that guys like Clemens, Bonds and A-Rod didn’t have to cheat.  They are so damn talented that they would have had hall of fame careers without ever touching the stuff.  What a shame.

-Still thinking about steroids in baseball.  Why is it that the homerun hitters take most of the heat from the media and the fans and the pitchers, besides Clemens, seem to skate?  You know there had to be a lot of pitchers on the juice too.

-You have to love Ryan Kalish, whoever the hell he is?  He just hit his first career big league homerun to make it 6-3 Boston.  Just another no-name outfielder getting the job done for the 2010 Red Sox.  Amazing!

-Lowrie walked.  Vazquez is done.  Here comes Joba.  It’s amazing how a guy with such great stuff can turn into a stiff just like that!

-A 1-2-3 sixth and an easy seventh.  Clay Buchholz is looking like the pitcher who was outstanding in the first half of the season before the hamstring injury.  Wow, has he matured!

-Buchholz is done with one out in the eighth.  Time to get nervous, Tito’s going to the bullpen.

-It’s Daniel Bard.  He’s been rock solid this year even though he has had a couple of tough outings against the Yankees in his career.

-Nice catch Jacoby!  How are the ribs feeling?

-Time for Papelbon in the ninth.  A three run cushion should be good enough.

-That was strike 3 on Jeter….crap!

-Swisher flies out to left.

-RED SOX WIN!  THAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA RED SOX WIN!
