ALPHA MALE: Losing Hair? Make It Work
Wednesday, November 16, 2011
Interestingly, 95 percent of balding men have male pattern baldness – or a receding hairline. Men often tremble when they see the garage doors on the top of their head start to open. The receding hairline is just the start as it is usually closely followed by thinning at the top. During these early stages of baldness, it is important that men learn to work with the thinning hair in a manner not to accentuate it. Below are three mistakes men make when they see their hair start to pull a Houdini on them:
1. Stay away from the gel. Young men often feel that well positioned hair held in place by an expensive hair gel will hide what’s missing on top. Unfortunately, gel clumps hair together and reveals large area of the scalp the geller is seeking to hide.
2. A comb-over is when a man grows their hair longer on one side of the head, and flops these long hairs over the bald spot. Simply put, comb-overs are for dorks. Unfortunately, the slightest breeze will knock each of the long hairs out of place exposing the bald spot and faulty attempt to cover it.
3. Growing long hairs around the balding area does not hide anything. In fact, these strands of long hair will look extra thin and the area around the hair will look messy. Length does not equate to thickness – and growing long hair around a bald spot will not make it disappear.
So what can you do?
First, make sure that the hair that is left is well-groomed using a high-quality conditioner and mousse. You can get your hair layered and brush it forward to break up the receding hairline. Another approach if your hair is only slightly thinning is to comb your hair straight back to cover the bald spot. Neat and well-kept hair looks best – whether you have a full-head of hair or your hair is thinning.
Finally, shaving totally bald is cool. You’ll be amazed by the compliments you receive, as you take on your new identity. Just like a full-head of hair, it is important to make sure you take care of your bald head. Sunscreen in the summer, moisturizer in the morning, and regular shaves with a good razor are all a must. Finally, don’t forget a cool hat to keep you warm in winter – it’s amazing how much colder you’ll feel without hair!
If all else fails – you can always opt for a toupee for a last resort. Although I wouldn’t recommend it!
