Uber Launches New RideCheck Safety Feature

The feature allows the company to check in with riders and drivers if Uber detects something may be wrong during a trip.
The company has been under near-constant scrutiny for a series of high profile crimes related to the company's drivers.
“We strongly believe that technology can make travel safer. If we detect an unusual event on our trip such as an unexpected stop or a potential crash, we proactively initiate RideCheck to make sure everyone is okay and the resources they may need to get help,” said Sachin Kansal, Head of Safety Products at Uber.
Uber's CEO is Brown University grad Dara Khosrowshahi.
How RideCheck Works
When a RideCheck is initiated, both a rider and driver will receive a notification asking if everything is OK and bringing up options for assistance.
Riders and drivers can let Uber know through the app that all is well, or take other actions like contacting 911 through the emergency button or reporting the issue to Uber’s Safety Line.
Uber’s safety team can also follow up by phone to inquire about the RideCheck.
In the event of a crash, Uber can also help speed up the insurance claims process.
