Worcester Night Run to Help Worcester Native in Her Battle Against Cancer

Thursday, July 02, 2015

The Worcester Night Run, a race against cancer, is a charity 5k scheduled to take place on Friday, August 28 at 7:45 pm starting at Burncoat High School.

100% of the proceeds from this 5k will go to Worcester native and Burncoat High School graduate Erin Coonon Schmidt to aid in her battle against cancer.

Online registration is available here, and is $25 till the end of July. The first 500 event participants will receive an event T-shirt and all participants will receive finish line refreshment.

Onsite registration will be $31 for adults and $29 for students.

Erin's Fight With Cancer

Erin’s story is one of desperate struggle and an unwillingness to give in. On December 12, 2008 Erin was diagnosed with stage two breast cancer at the age of 27. Over the next five years Erin underwent regular treatments.

At what was supposed to be Erin’s final MRI, doctors discovered spots on her liver. Shortly thereafter cancer was confirmed in both her bones and liver. Now with this stage four cancer diagnosis, Erin continues to fight, in part, because of the support received from family and friends.
