Burncoat HS FIRST Wins Engineering Inspiration Award

Thursday, March 12, 2015

Burncoat High School's FIRST Robotics has won the Engineering Inspiration Award at the Reading District Event held on March 7-8th in Reading, MA. The Engineering Inspiration Award is the second highest honor given by FIRST.

The Award recognizes outstanding success in advancing respect and appreciation for engineering within a team's community.

"Athletes, artists and musicians, oh my! This well-rounded team channels their passion for robotics into their community through sports demos, camps, and expos. Their outreach impacts and inspires people of all ages, with a particular emphasis on youth and females," said the judges about the team.

The Burncoat High School robotics team was formed in the fall of 2005 to engage students in science and engineering by giving them a real problem.

FIRST, For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, was founded by Dean Kamen and MIT professor Dr. Woodie Flowers in 1992. High school teams spend six weeks building a 120 pound robot to compete in the year's game.
