“Rat Girl” Author Kristin Hersh Returns to Providence

Tuesday, November 09, 2010

Kristin Hersh, solo artist and lead singer and guitarist for alternative rock groups Throwing Muses and 50FOOTWAVE, debuted her remarkably candid memoir, Rat Girl, this past September to critical acclaim. Based on diary entries Hersh penned as an 18-year-old, the book takes readers on an adventure, from touring with a band on the verge of superstardom to the turbulent life of a teenage girl.

The songstress returns to her Providence stomping grounds tomorrow evening for a free reading and performance at 7pm at the Knight Memorial Library. Hersh is fresh off a feature in the New York Times by Rob Sheffield, a contributing editor at Rolling Stone magazine, who called Rat Girl “an uncommonly touching punk memoir.”

An Evening with Kristin Hersh begins at 7pm at Knight Memorial Library, located at 275 Elmwood Avenue in Providence. The event is free and open to the public.
