Seen: Jason Schwartzman, Seth MacFarlane & More

Wednesday, May 25, 2011

Wes Anderson’s feature flick Moonrise Kingdom has attracted stars from far and wide to humble Rhode Island. In between shooting scenes, the acclaimed director was spotted eating at local-centric restaurant Tallulah on Thames in Newport. One of the movie’s leads, Bill Murray, enjoyed dinner at Fluke restaurant. Prolific actor Harvey Keitel is currently staying at the Vanderbilt Grace Hotel, and Jason Schwartzman of the HBO series Bored to Death has been seen around town as well. Seems like it's almost impossible to not run into a celebrity in Newport these days…

RISD-grad Seth MacFarlane, creator of the Rhode Island-based cartoon Family Guy among others, is going back in time. He has been given the opportunity to remake another beloved cartoon – The Flintstones. Instead of commenting on 1960s America like the original did, the new version will be about the America of the 21st century. And as anyone who’s ever seen an episode of one of MacFarlane’s shows knows, he loves social

commentary. The stone-age revival won’t hit the airwaves until 2013, so MacFarlane has a lot of time to tweak the show without erasing what audiences loved about it in the first place…

In other TV news, East Providence native Josh Schwartz will have a new show airing this fall on the CW. He’s created teen dramas The OC and Gossip Girl, spy comedy Chuck, and now medical drama Hart of Dixie. The show follows a young doctor who moves from New York to a small Southern town to run a medical practice. Playing the lead character Dr. Zoe Hart is none other than Rachel Bilson, whose character on The OC ended up going to Brown University. The show will be on from 9-10pm on Mondays in the fall, so make sure to tune in to see a Rhode Islander’s take on the South…

Former Survivor winner and Celebrity Apprentice contestant Richard Hatch may still be in prison for tax evasion, but that didn’t stop him from appearing on TV during the last two weeks. Although he was fired by Donald Trump for failing to raise any money in a fundraising task in episode 5 of Apprentice, he returned for the final two episodes to help actress Marlee Matlin try to win the show’s prize money for her charity The Starkey Hearing Foundation (Matlin is deaf). Unfortunately she was bested by singer John Rich in the Sunday night finale, and Newport-born Hatch is back in jail for the long haul. He should be out in December, that is if he can “survive” another stint in the Big House…
