RISD-grad Seth MacFarlane, creator of the Rhode Island-based cartoon Family Guy among others, is going back in time. In other TV news, East Providence native Josh Schwartz will have a new show airing this fall on the CW. He’s created teen dramas The OC and Gossip Girl, spy comedy Chuck, and now medical drama Hart of Dixie. The show follows a young doctor who moves from New York to a small Southern town to run a medical practice. Playing the lead character Dr. Zoe Hart is none other than Rachel Bilson, whose character on The OC ended up going to Brown University. Former Survivor winner and Celebrity Apprentice contestant Richard Hatch may still be in prison for tax evasion, but that didn’t stop him from appearing on TV during the last two weeks. Although he was fired by Donald Trump for failing to raise any money in a fundraising task in episode 5 of Apprentice, he returned for the final two episodes to help actress Marlee Matlin try to win the show’s prize money for her charity The Starkey Hearing Foundation (Matlin is deaf). Unfortunately she was bested by singer John Rich in the Sunday night finale, and Newport-born Hatch is back in jail for the long haul. He should be out in December, that is if he can “survive” another stint in the Big House…
