Tom Finneran: What I Miss

Friday, May 15, 2020

1)I miss Mass on Sunday mornings.

2)I miss taking the grandkids to school.

3)I miss the early morning crowd at the gym.

4)I miss the library.

5)I miss the bookstore.

6)I miss my friends.

7)I miss golf.

8)I miss the Stanley Cup playoffs.

9)I miss the NBA playoffs.

10)I miss the baseball box scores.

11)I miss the simple and comfortable structure of a “normal day”.

12)I miss going out to dinner.

13)I miss wakes.

14)I miss funerals.

15)I miss people and conversation and human laughter and tears.

16)I miss the hum of a good bar.

17)I miss the joyful noise of a playground in use.

18)I miss the sounds of school recess.

19)I miss seeing kids huddle up.

20)I miss Little League games.

21)I miss hugging a friend.

22)I miss seeing the smile of a friend or a stranger.

23)I miss graduations.

24)I miss pictures of nervous kids going to their proms.

25)I miss the sound of teens giggling as they walk through a mall.

May they all return, quickly, to our lives.

Of course, there are things I will not miss after this Covid-19 episode has been conquered.

1)I will not miss masks.

2)I will not miss gloves.

3)I will not miss daily briefings.

4)I will not miss souped-up stale “news”.

5)I will not miss admission lines outside grocery stores.

6)I will not miss the fear I see in people’s eyes.

7)I will not miss the fear I hear in people’s voices.

In the meantime, may you and your family stay healthy, patient, and strong.
