Longtime State Rep John Binienda Passes Away
Saturday, August 23, 2014
After 28 years in politics, Binienda had announced this year that he was retiring, largely due to health problems.
“Worcester has lost one of its greatest champions,” said Worcester City Manager Ed Augustus. “For 28 years, John worked tirelessly for the people of Central Massachusetts. John was not only an effective voice for his district, he was a dear friend. As those of us touched by John's life and his work mourn his passing, our thoughts and prayers are with his children John, Jamie, and Julie and all his family and friends.”
Binienda had represented the 17th Worcester District, a position he held for 14 terms.
“I am saddened and heartbroken by the passing of Representative John J. Binienda,” said State Senator Michael Moore. “In his 28 years of service to the Commonwealth, he truly exemplified what it meant to be a public servant. Representative Binienda was a strong and compassionate leader on Beacon Hill who advocated and secured positive results for Massachusetts and for the City of Worcester and the Town of Leicester, which he had a deep and genuine admiration.”
