How charitable is Massachusetts?

According to a recent study completed by WalletHub, Massachusetts is ranked as the 24th most charitable state in the U.S.

“Tis the season for giving. And the latest World Giving Index shows that the United States has been the most generous country over the course of the last ten years. U.S. donors in 2018 gave more than $427 billion to charity, with 68 percent of the funds coming directly from individuals, according to the National Philanthropic Trust,” writes WalletHub.

MA’s Rankings

  • 40th Best - Volunteering & service
  • 6th Best - Charitable giving
  • 3rd - Most charities per capita

The Rankings

Massachusetts is ranked directly behind Indiana and Nebraska, who rank 22nd and 23rd respectively.

MA is ranked ahead of Missouri and Connecticut, who rank 25th and 26th overall.

Arizona is ranked as the least charitable state in the country, while Minnesota is ranked as the most charitable.
