Winter Storm Juno: 5 Things You Need to Know

Even as Central Mass residents wake up to over a foot of snow outside, there is still more they need to know about Winter Storm Juno.

Here are some tips to help you get prepared and get by on Wednesday from the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency: MEMA Winter Storm Tips.

Wind chills will range from 0 to -5 in Central Mass on Wednesday. Be sure to check out MEMA's Extreme Cold Preparedness Tips.

As snow continues to pile on, residents will still be wondering: When will the snow stop? Will the kids have school on Wednesday? Is it going to snow again soon?

1. Top 10 Storm of All-Time in Mass

There will be heavy snowfall. Between two and three feet of snow will fall by Wednesday morning. The heaviest of the snow will end by time Tuesday around noon.

Juno will amount to at least a top ten greatest blizzard of all-time in Massachusetts if and when it surpasses the 22” mark of snow.

2. First Major Blizzard in Two Years

The last time Central MA saw a storm like this was February 2013 when the Massachusetts was rocked by Winter Storm Nemo.

NEMO singlehandedly shut down every road in Worcester. Dropping more than two feet of snow in the city, a driving ban was put into effect.

3. Baker Bans Travel

As GoLocal Worcester reported, Governor Charlie Baker has announced that effective immediately Massachusetts is in a State of Emergency. The Governor has also banned all non-essential motor vehicles from driving during the blizzard.

The ban went into effect at midnight on Monday night and will remain in effect until the Governor lifts the ban.

The Governor did admit he was considering lifting bans as needed once roads began to clear.

4. Bet on No School on Wednesday

On Monday night, the city of Boston cancelled school for Wednesday. Expect the city of Worcester to hold out until as late as it can, but don't plan on doing your homework for Wednesday.

5. More Snow Possible on Friday

According to the National Weather Service, there is a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Friday morning.

According to their report, "ACCUMULATING SNOW IS POSSIBLE WITHN ANOTHER LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM...BUT CERTAINLY NOTHING LIKE WHAT WE WILL EXPERIENCE OVER THE NEXT 48 HOURS."
