Brown Football Takes on Harvard in First-Ever Night Game

If you're a Rhode Island sports fan, the Brown/Harvard football game is a must-see this Saturday. Brown is hosting the first-ever night game at Brown Stadium, where they kickoff against Harvard for the 110^th time in one of the oldest rivalries in college football.

Brown's Head Coach Phil Estes had been trying to arrange a night game at Brown Stadium for years and with the help of The Brown Football Association and Brown alumni they have raised enough money to finally make it happen. Brown is spending around $45,000 on four temporary Musco lights to illuminate the stadium for this historic event. The entire Brown community is very excited about the long-anticipated night game and will be out in full support.

"To play in the first light game in Brown history is something special, our whole team is so excited," said Senior Defensive Lineman and Barrington native John Anderson. "The support that we have received from the school and Providence community has been really special this week, we just want to go out and show everyone what Brown football is all about."

The Brown event links to a long-ago football first: the first-ever professional football game played under lights, which was 1929 in Providence (and for a look at that historic event, go here).

Saturday's crowd is expected to be around 15,000, which will be the largest crowd Brown Stadium has seen in a very long time.

Kickoff is at 6pm. Tickets for the game are $20 for adults and $10 for youth and can be purchased online, by phone (863-2773) or at the gate starting at 4pm.

Lot A next to the Stadium will open at 3:30pm for parking/tailgating. Unfortunately, gameday parking passes for this lot are already sold out, but you'll be able to either park on the street or at Brown's designated Satellite Parking areas: Pizzitola Center Lot (235 Hope St), Stevenson Field Lot (235 Lloyd Ave), Power Street Parking Garage (corner of Power and Brook St.).

No matter how you get there, it's going to be one for the record books. Don't miss it.
