Brown Football Pre-Season Ranking

Wednesday, August 11, 2010

Brown University football coach Phil Estes has had much success in the Ivy League in his 12 seasons as head coach.  His teams captured three of the programs four titles in 1999, 2005 and 2008 and have finished third or better in the league nine times.  His 2010 team has been picked to finish third in the Ivy League’s preseason media poll this year.

The Bears will be led by senior QB Kyle Newhall-Caballero who was named first team All-Ivy in 2009, his first season as a starter.  He will be protected by a veteran offensive line and hand the ball off to tailback Zack Tronti who was second team All-Ivy a year ago.

With the loss of Buddy Farnham and Portsmouth native Bobby Sewall to graduation, Newhall-Caballero’s top target at WR may be Matt Sudfeld.  6’-6” TE Alex Prestley will also provide a big target for Newhall-Caballero.

On both special teams and defense, the player to watch will be sophomore A.J. Cruz.  The California native had a sensational freshman season starting at cornerback for Mike Kelleher’s defense.  He is also an explosive return man.

Former East Providence Townie Nate Lovett will handle the kicking duties for the Bears who open up their 2010 season at Brown Stadium September 18th against the Stony Brook Seawolves.
