Jared Remy Pleads Guilty on Murder Charge

Tuesday, May 27, 2014

Jared Remy

Jared Remy, the son of Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy, pleaded guilty today to murdering his girlfriend, Jennifer Martel, last August.

Remy entered the plea in Middlesex Superior Court.  He was charged in the stabbing death of Martel, and he also faces assault and battery charges from another incident with Martel 2 days prior to her death.

The judge did not immediately accept Remy's plea, which carries a mandatory sentence of life without parole.  Jared Remy is 35 years old.  Martel was 27.

The couple lived in Waltham and had a 5-year-old daughter together.  Jerry Remy returned to the Red Sox broadcast team on NESN this season after taking a leave of absence last Fall.
