The New England Patriots made one addition on the first official day of NFL free agency, signing defensive tackle Beau Allen to a two-year deal worth $8 million, according to Fox Sports’ Adam Caplan.

The lone signing comes as New England watched several key players leave the organization including Tom Brady, Kyle Van Noy, Duran Harmon, Jamie Collins, and Danny Shelton.

About Allen

Allen, 28, appeared in 13 games last season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, recording 0.5 sacks and 10 total tackles.

Prior to that, Allen was a member of the 2017 Philadelphia Eagles, helping them win the Super Bowl over the Patriots.

Overall, Allen has played six seasons in the NFL, spending four of them with the Eagles and two with Tampa Bay.

Allen will likely fill Shelton’s role in the Patriots defense.

Mass Exodus from New England

As mentioned above, the Patriots have lost a number of players in free agency and one via trade.

As has been reported, Brady is headed to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, though a deal is not complete yet as of Wednesday night

Collins, Shelton and Duran Harmon are headed to Detroit.

New England traded Harmon to Detroit for “late-round picks,” according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The move opened up more than $4 million in cap space for the Patriots.

Meanwhile, Van Noy, center Ted Karras, and linebacker Elandon Roberts are headed to the Miami Dolphins.
