Patriots Select Arizona State Receiver Harry in 1st Round of NFL Draft
Friday, April 26, 2019
“Productive player over a three-year period. Played for a couple of different coaches, played for coach Graham for a couple of years and then coach Edwards came in but he has been a pretty productive player in heir system. A big strong receiver, good hands, good with the ball after the catch,” said Patriots Director of Player Personnel Nick Caserio during his post-draft press conference.
It is the first time in the Bill Belichick era that the Patriots drafted a wide receiver in the first round.
“We aren’t really concerned about what has happened in the past. I think we look at this year’s group of players across the board and then we stack the players obviously horizontally and vertically and then we work across so, it is the same thing we did with Sony last year,” Caserio added.
About Harry
At Arizona State, Harry hauled in 73 catches for 1,088 yards and nine touchdowns last season.
In three years at Arizona State, he had caught 22 touchdown passes and have over 1,000 yards receiving in each of the last two seasons.
He is listed at 6'2" and 228 pounds.
Wide Receiver Depth
Harry adds to the Patriots wide receiver depth chart which currently consists of Demaryius Thomas, Julian Edelman, Philip Dorsett, Bruce Ellington, Maurice Harris, Braxton Berrios, Matthew Slater, and Josh Gordon.
Upcoming Picks
New England has 11 more picks in the 2019 draft.
That includes two in the second round and three in the third round.
Caserio added, "There are certainly a number of good football players left up there so we will recalibrate where we are tonight (Thursday) and tomorrow morning (Friday) and kind of get ready to go for tomorrow."
Both of those rounds will take place on Friday night.
