YMCA of Central Massachusetts Opens in Leominster - 5th Branch

Monday, September 21, 2015

The YMCA of Central Massachusetts is continuing to grow and serve the Central Mass community by opening its 5th branch in Leominster.

The Grand Opening celebration for the facility located on 108 Adams Street will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2015. From 4-6pm.

The YMCA, being a leader in the wellness industry will continue to expand initiatives to combat difficult health issues that revolve around health disparities, obesity and chronic disease,” said David Connell, Regional Executive Director. “It is evident through the current programs we offer in our Fitchburg location that families continue to struggle with healthy eating and physical activities, which have an impact on overall health.  We are delighted to expand YMCA programing and service to the Leominster area,” he continued.

“Whether it’s nurturing the potential of children and teens, improving health and well-being, or giving back to support neighbors, involvement with the Y has a positive impact on those in our community.  The YMCA is a place where cause meets community,”stated Kathryn Zingg Hunter, President/CEO of the YMCA of Central Massachusetts. “Every day our mission and vision drive us to meet the emerging needs of our members and the communities we serve,” she added.

The 150 year old YMCA is poised for the next generation

Launching into their next 150 years the YMCA is proud to offer all that the Y has to offer serving families, adults, youth of all ages, all backgrounds, all abilities including special programs for the disable.  This is a far reach from 150 years ago in 1864 when the YMCA of Worcester operated from one room in Mechanics Hall, and only served one gender, one age group with one religion.  Back to the future, today the YMCA of Central Massachusetts serves 57 communities in the heart of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and one thing remains the same to its legacy; advocating one of the YMCA’s mission to continue to strengthen communities-“GROWING STRONGER TOGETHER.”

The 10,000 square foot health and wellness facility is outfitted with state- of- the fitness equipment, nationally certified staff and multi-purpose space to meet the needs of a growing and diverse community. The Leominster Y now offers; Free Child Watch, Personal Training and Specialty Programs designed to assist individuals in achieving personal and family wellness goals. “As YMCA volunteer leaders, we take seriously our responsibility to do everything we can to make a positive difference in the lives of those we serve. We are excited and looking forward to deepening our impact in Leominster,” stated Katrina Sweitzer, Chair Montachusett Community Branch Board of Governors.

Grand Opening Membership specials are extended to the new Leominster branch as well as to the other Y branches in Central Massachusetts.  For more information please contact Jennifer Gordon, Regional Associate Executive Director at 978.343.4847 ext. 214 or [email protected] or visit http://www.ymcaofcm.org. The public are invited to help kick off the celebration.  Please RSVP to Laurie Sleeper at [email protected].  The launch week includes many activities including “Lunch on Us” Monday, September 21st, 12-2pm.  Activities for youth and the entire family are listed on the branches page of the YMCAofCM.org’s website.
