Here's what will probably be the last of the Emma Watson news (well, in relation to Rhode Island, anyway). The young starlet is on the cover of the new issue of Vogue, and in it she dispels rumors that bullying made her leave Brown University, where she was previously studying. She says that she was in denial about her fame and was just trying to live a "normal" life, but realized that it was impossible for her. She even asked another in her position for advice on how to juggle school and stardom - James Franco, current Rhode Island School of Design student. Although Emma said that the Brown students were very welcoming and nonchalant about her celebrity status, she will still be enrolling at
Last week we reported that Johnson and Wales University grad Juba Kali was a contestant on the seventh season of the Food Network reality show Food Network Star, which premiered last Sunday. Unfortunately, this is the last update you'll be getting about him. He was eliminated in this past Sunday's episode because of his timid presence in front of the camera and lack of authority when presenting his food. Juba expressed his regrets about going home so early, although he was happy that the judges, including star chef Bobby Flay, praised his food very highly (what else would you expect from a JWU culinary school student?). While he may not become a TV chef anytime soon, Juba's cooking chops will definitely take him places, maybe even to his own restaurant in Providence...
Move over, Natalie Portman, because Rhode Island’s got the real swan queen! Providence-born and Warwick-raised Greta Hodgkinson is celebrating 20 years with the National Ballet of Canada, almost 15 of which she has spent as principal dancer (since 1996). She studied at the Festival Ballet Providence Center for Dance Education for some years as a child, then at age 11 moved to Toronto to enroll in the National Ballet School, despite being homesick for Little Rhody. The company is honoring her continuing legacy from June 15-19 with a mixed bill called Celebrating Greta. So if you can get over your hatred of the Canucks for a few days, maybe take a trip up to the Great White North to support a Rhode Islander who became a ballet star without (spoiler alert!) going all Black Swan and crazy...
