The 10 Best Movie Theaters in Central MA

Tuesday, January 06, 2015

When Showcase Cinemas North opened up in Worcester in the 1990s, it had a profound effect in the city. With the opening of the multiplex, three theaters ultimately closed a few years later. Movie theaters at Webster Square, White City Plaza, and the downtown Showcase location, that now is home to the Hanover Theatre, all shut their doors.

Almost 20 years later, and Showcase North is still the only movie theater complex in the city. However, its largest, and currently more popular, competitor opened in 2004. The Blackstone Valley Cinema de Lux in Millbury is also part of the Showcase Cinema group and has provided moviegoers with 14 screens, stadium seating, Director’s Halls, and a restaurant.

However, the independent theaters in Central Massachusetts are still very popular. West Boylston CInema, the Strand Theater in Clinton, and the Elm Draughthouse in Millbury provide a less expensive alternative with second run films and discounted matinees. The Strand and the Elm also serve food, and offer beer and wine. These independent's ticket prices range from $4-$6 per movie.

Here’s a look at the Top Ten Movie Theaters in Central MA:
