The HOPE Coalition along with Clark University is set to sponsor their 13th annual
Youth Worker Training Institute Luncheon Graduation Ceremony at the Boys and Girls Club of Worcester.
The graduation ceremony is set for Monday, May 1 from 11 a.m. to noon.
“Youth workers play an enormously important role in the lives of young people. Youth workers are role models, mentors, friends, big sisters and brothers, teachers, and sometimes even surrogate parents. Increasing the skills of youth workers is an important step toward reducing risky behavior in youth and ensuring that young people lead happy, healthy, productive, and safe lives,” said Laurie Ross, associate professor of Community Development and Planning at Clark.
The Ceremony
This year, 25 students will graduate from the institute.
The graduation’s keynote speaker will be Eric Batista, Chief of Operations and Project Management for the City of Worcester Office of the City Manager, Edward Augustus Jr.
Batista has spent his career working to support and develop the lives and dreams of the Worcester community.
Before working for the City, he spent five years as assistant director of the Upward Bound Scholars Program at Youth Opportunities Upheld.
The graduation ceremony will also feature two speakers who are current participants of the program. Trainers for the Institute sessions, supervisors and executive directors of participating agencies also are invited to join participants.
