MBTA General Manager Beverly Scott Resigns

Wednesday, February 11, 2015

On Wednesday, Beverly Scott resigned from her position as Genearl Manager of the MBTA. As GoLocal reported on Monday, the MBTA has received a good amount of criticism from Governor Charlie Baker.

Scott's resignation will be effective April 11. In a letter sent to MassDot, Scott said, "During the past two years, it has been an absolute pleasure and honor to serve with and lead this dedicated team of transit professionals and public servants."

"Over the next sixty days, I will work with you, and the Board, to effect a smooth transition," wrote Scott.

On Monday, Governor Baker called the MBTA's performance "simply unacceptable." Baker said, “We’ve been frusturated and disappointed with the performance of the ‘T'," said Baker. "We spent a lot time over the course of hte weekend, talking to the folks at the T to make sure they were able to run an abbreviated schedule today. The fact that even that abbreviated schedule hasn’t been able to be maintained and once it stops snowing, we plan to have a long conversation with folks at the T with improving performance.”

In her letter, Scott concluded: "No question, much more needs to be done to achieve the modern, and first-class public transportaion system that all want and deserve."
