Weather Update: Up to 4 Inches of Snow & Sleet Expected in Worcester

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Worcester. 

According to the service, up to 4 inches of snow and sleet is possible in Worcester starting early on Friday and lasting throughout the day. 

The advisory is in effect until 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 1.

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 AM EDT

SATURDAY...

 

* LOCATIONS...Northern Connecticut, southwest and south central

  Massachusetts.

 

* HAZARD TYPES...A mixture of snow, sleet and freezing rain.

 

* ACCUMULATIONS...Snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 4 inches

  especially in the higher terrain with the higher amounts near

  the Massachusetts turnpike.

 

* TIMING...A mixture of snow, sleet and rain will continue into

  mid afternoon but roads will remain wet. The precipitation will

  become heavier later this afternoon and evening. A brief period

  of snow is possible, but mainly sleet is expected. Sleet will

  change to rain in the lower elevations, but freezing rain is

  expected across the high terrain. A tenth to a quarter inch of

  ice accretion is possible across the high terrain. Precipitation

  may change back to all snow Saturday morning before ending.

 

* IMPACTS...Untreated roads will become slippery this evening

  especially across the high terrain. Travel overnight may remain

  slippery in the high terrain, but should improve in the lower

  elevations.

 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

 

A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow, sleet, or

freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for

slippery roads and limited visibilities, and use caution while

driving.
