NEW: Worcester 16th District Candidate Claros Wins Key Endorsement

Wednesday, August 14, 2013

Worcester's 16th District State Rep. Republican candidate Carol Claros picks up an endorsement the morning after the Democratic primary.

Today Mike Hruby, President of New Jobs for Massachusetts, (New Jobs), a public policy advocate for rapid growth in private sector employment in Massachusetts, announced that in the Special Election for State Representative in the Worcester 16th District, Carol Claros is the Pro-Jobs Candidate.

“As a State Representative from Worcester County’s 16th State Rep District, we anticipate that Carol Claros will fight to reduce the legal barriers to job growth in Massachusetts. Of the six candidates, Carol is the Pro-Jobs Candidate,” said Hruby. “She cares about individuals who want to work. She supports common sense measures to help jobs grow in Worcester.”

New Jobs sent a detailed survey to the six candidates running in the September 10th special election. Analyzing the response and the on-line positions and statements of the candidates, shows that Claros has the best understanding of how regulations and high taxes suppress job growth. She knows that minimum wage rules keep young and minority people out of the labor force. Sshe supports a rollback of the sales tax to leave more money in workers’ pockets.

Hruby outlined the jobs challenge for the Worcester 16th, saying: “New Jobs has been sounding the alarm that Massachusetts job growth faces a long-running crisis. According to federal and state data, the Commonwealth needs 1.1 million jobs in order to satisfy the widespread need for employment, both part-time and full-time. That’s roughly 42% of the working age population. Worcester’s 16th District has 18,039 residents ages 17 to 65. By this calculation, more than 7,576 residents of the 16th District want full-time or part-time work. Claros will work to improve job prospects for Worcester residents and all other Bay Staters who want work.”

“Claros deserves the designation of being a Pro-Jobs Candidate from New Jobs for Massachusetts,” added Hruby. “District voters who want to accelerate job growth in the district and create more jobs in all occupations in Worcester should support her on Tuesday, September 10th.”
