College Admissions: The Real Cost of the Most Expensive Colleges

Last week the U.S. Department of Education unveiled a new Web site that provides information on the cost of U.S. colleges. The three most expensive colleges were all in New England. Bates, Connecticut College and Middlebury topped the list with an annual cost that exceeds $50,000. Often, this data sends shivers up the spines of parents and causes families to cross great colleges off their lists.

Tape Art Takes Over Kennedy Plaza

If you have walked downtown near Kennedy Plaza any time in the past month, you have probably noticed the gradual transformation of the Bank of America Skating Center into a huge mural of a tree. Occupying the entire rink, this “mural” is a large-scale temporary Tape Art Installation and has been a work in progress for the past three weeks to honor the 375th Anniversary of the City of Providence.

A New Way to Enjoy Rocky Point

While many Rhode Islanders will remember Rocky Point as a place to stroll, sit, and spoon, now it's a place... to walk. The beloved, iconic amusement park is again open to the public, and a crowd recently took the first official stroll along Rhode Island's newest public pathway. On one side of the recently paved one-mile trail lies a sweeping, unobstructed view of Narragansett Bay. On the other, a 6-foot-high chain-link fence shields the remains of the former Rocky Point Park gateway and the crumbling, hulking World's Largest Shore Dinner Hall.

Citizens Bank Donates to RI Food Bank for Every PawSox Strike-Out

Baseball fans and all Rhode Islanders alike now have extra incentive to root for PawSox pitching this summer. The Red Sox AAA affiliate will team up with Rhode Island Food Bank and The Citizens Bank Foundation to make a $75 donation for every strike out this season, up to a total of $75,000.

RI Students Take Top Honors in SkillsUSA National Championships

It was a big day last week for 75 Rhode Island career and technical students who participated in the SkillsUSA Championships. The students from eight of RI's career and technical schools joined more than 5,000 students who competed in 94 occupational and leadership skill competition areas. 15 students placed in the top 10 in their fields.
