NEW: Patriots Beat Browns 27-13 Behind Big Day from Defense & Edelman
Sunday, October 27, 2019
Edelman hauled in eight passes for 78 yards and two touchdowns in the contest, helping the Patriots to an 8-0 record.
Meanwhile, the defense forced three turnovers on three consecutive Cleveland possessions to spark the Patriots to an early lead.
The victory is the 300th of head coach Bill Belichick’s career.
Cleveland drops to 2-5 on the year.
Patriots Offense Seals Wins
After the Patriots jumped out to a 17-0 lead in the first quarter, the Browns cut it to 17-10 on a 38-yard field goal by kicker Austin Seibert.
From there, the Patriots offense would regain control of the game.
On New England’s ensuing possession, quarterback Tom Brady connected with Edelman on a 14-yard touchdown pass to make the score 24-10 with six minutes left in the third quarter.
The touchdown capped off a seven-play, 84-yard drive.
In the game, Brady completed 20 of 36 passes for 259 yards and two touchdowns in the game.
The Patriots would add to their lead in the fourth quarter when Nugent sent a 29-yard field goal through the uprights to make the score 27-10.
Defense Gets Pats off to Fast Start
After New England got on the board with a 20-yard field goal by Mike Nugent to go up 3-0, the defense took over early on.
On Cleveland’s ensuing possession, Mayfield handed the ball to Chubb, who then fumbled on his own 26-yard line.
The loose ball was picked up by Dont’a Hightower and returned for a touchdown to make the score 10-0 after a Nugent extra point.
In the final minutes of the quarter, the Patriots defense would strike again.
On first-and-10 from his own 21-yard line, Mayfield tried a shovel pass to receiver Jarvis Landry that was intercepted by Lawrence Guy, who broke through the offensive line.
Two plays later, Brady hit Edelman on an eight-yard touchdown pass to go up 17-0 after a Nugent extra point.
The Patriots defense had three turnovers in the first quarter.

New receiver Mohamed Sanu made his Patriots debut on Sunday afternoon.
Sanu was acquired in a trade with the Atlanta Falcons on Tuesday.
In the game, Sanu had two catches for 23 yards on five targets. He also had a couple of drops early in the game.
