Scott Cordischi On Sports: What’s Next For Jets?

Wednesday, December 08, 2010

Will the Jets recover from Monday night's beatdown? The game of the year turned out to be the laugher of the year. In fact, the Patriots are still waiting for the Jets to show up at Gillette Stadium because they certainly didn’t show up Monday night.

As former Cowboys’ coach Jimmy Johnson once said, “if you want to talk the talk, you have to walk the walk.” The Jets did plenty of talking the week leading up to Monday night’s game but they certainly didn’t back it up with their play on the field.

Meanwhile, Bill Belichick’s Patriots took their usual flat line approach to the game before and after. Tom Brady said after the game that his coach wants the players to “talk little after a win and talk even less after a loss.” It is that approach that allows the Patriots to easily put behind them a significant victory such as Monday’s or an embarrassing loss like the one they suffered in Cleveland earlier this season.

Conversely, it will be very interesting to see how the New York Jets respond to Monday night’s embarrassment. Following in their coaches footsteps, they told the world how great they were leading up to the game and how they were going to beat New England in that game.

Unfortunately for the Jets, they did not deliver on their promise and now they must answer all of the questions as to why things happened the way that they did. We will see if they can put that loss behind them and move forward as the Patriots do each week. This will be Rex Ryan’s big challenge.

-However this season turns out for the PC Friars, give them credit for their (9-1) start to the season which included a big win over URI. Granted the schedule outside of the Rhody game was soft, but this team has taken care of business by playing better defense than they did a year ago and by everyone filling different roles.

-That Derek Jeter is “angry” with the way negotiations were handled by the Yankees for his new contract comes as no surprise. The Yankees waged a flat out PR assault on one of their greatest stars and classiest players through the New York media. It’s not as if the Yankees weren’t correct in saying that their offer was fair and that Jeter’s contract demands were ridiculous. You simply wonder why they decided to publicly embarrass their shortstop turning most of New York against him.

-At least the Red Sox wait until their players leave town before they start bad-mouthing them to the local media.

-Look up the word “bust” in the dictionary and see Redskins’ DL Albert Haynesworth’s picture next to it.

-It’s a little too early to be writing Peyton Manning off as being over the hill.

-Look up the word “disappointment” in the dictionary and see former Pitt Panther coach Dave Wannstedt’s picture next to it.

-I hate to say, “I told you so.” Wait a minute! No I don’t! I told you that the Red Sox decision to let Victor Martinez and Adrian Beltre walk was a clear indication that they had Adrian Gonzalez in their sights.

-Vincent Council is handing out assists for the Friars the way Rajon Rondo does for the Celtics. And Council isn’t playing with 4 future Hall of Famers.

-If Adrian Gonzalez can also pitch out of the bullpen then the Red Sox should really be in good shape.

-There’s no truth to the rumor that Cam Newton’s father demanded $180,000 dollars for his son to show up at the Heisman Trophy award ceremony this weekend.
