Health Foundation of Central MA Names Becker, Dimitri as New Directors

Randall Becker

The Board of The Health Foundation of Central Massachusetts named Randall Becker, C.P.A., M.B.A. and Dennis Dimitri, M.D., F.A.A.F.P. two new directors. 

Becker served as Chief Financial Officer, Senior Vice President and Director of MAPFRE U.S.A. Corp until he retired in 2016. He currently serves as a selectman for the town of Webster. 

Dimitri is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and Vice Chair of the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Massachusetts/UMass Memorial Medical Center. 

He served as president of the Massachusetts Medical Society from 2015-16 and had his own private practice in Worcester for almost 25 years.

Dennis Dimitri

The Board also elected these Officers and members of the Executive Committee: Michael Mutchler, M.D. as Chairman; Francis M. Saba, M.H.S.A. as Vice Chairman; Ann K. Tripp, M.B.A. as Treasurer; and Barent W. Walsh, Ph.D. as Secretary.

Others who continue to serve on the Board of Directors are: Sarika Aggarwal, M.D., M.H.C.M.; Timothy M. Bibaud, J.D.; Anthony Emerson, D.B.A.; David N. Grenier; Jay S. Himmelstein, M.D., M.P.H; Jennifer J. Hylton, Psy.D.; Jean G. McMurray; and Gisela Velez, M.D., M.P.H.

Strava

Strava gets the highest mark of all the cycling apps.  While it is also great for runners, the cyclers seem particularly inclined towards the fierce competition that can be ignited by this app.  You can track all of your rides via GPS, then you can compare your efforts to those logged by others in the community on the same stretch of road.  You can also join ongoing challenges that can net you great prizes (in addition to bragging rights).

Fooducate is an app all about educating people so that they make healthier food choices.  Although not perfect, this app is easy to use (you can even take pictures of bar codes to instantly find foods in their database).  It gives food a letter grade, tells you the pluses and minuses, and gives you better ranked alternatives.  You can also use it as a weight loss tool by tracking your daily calories.
