The votes are in and the two front runners won big victories in Massachusetts. Bernie Sanders could not win the state of Elizabeth Warren as Hillary Clinton piled up a New England state victory to couple with her sweeping wins in the South.

Donald Trump scored a massive victory and total vote was near record.

Donald Trump Won Nearly 50% of the Vote in MA

Donald Trump energized the Republican party and brought many independents over to the party. Trump won 49% of the votes and an amazing 298,826 votes.

Next closest was Ohio Governor John Kasich with 18.1% of the vote — 110,454.

Then Florida Senator Marco Rubio with 17.9% and 109,420.

Worcester - Trump Land

Trump scored 49% of the vote in Worcester. His November visit to the DCU Center set the tone and the stage for his break through win in Worcester.

“I’m a huge Donald Trump fan,” Jeremy Musa told GoLocal the night of Trump's visit. “I follow along with him wherever he is, but this is the first time I’ve had the chance to see him with my own two eyes. I’ve been waiting for him to come to Worcester and finally I saw that he was and I had to come. I’m most excited to hear him speak on immigration and the refugee crisis.”

A Big Loss for Sanders

For Bernie Sanders, Massachusetts may have sealed his fate. Sanders spent a lot of time in Massachusetts and a victory would have given him a near split on Super Tuesday versus Hillary Clinton.

A win for Sanders in the Commonwealth would have given Sanders 5 state wins to Clinton’s 6, but the loss of a New England state and momentum allowed Clinton to win 7 states to Sanders 4.

Trump Beat Former MA Governor Romney (Twice)

Trumps 298,826 votes in more than 30,000 votes comer MA Governor Mitt Romney won in 2012 and more than 40,000 more than Romney scored when he edged Senator John McCain in 2008.

In 2012, Romney won 72% of the GOP primary vote. Former Senator Rick Santorum won 12% of the vote in 2012.

In 2008, Romney won 51.3% and edged to McCain’s 41%.

Big Turnout in Worcester

This year’s primary turnout was big and may have been a record.  According to reports 33,000 of the city's 96,424 registered voted in Tuesday’s primary.

More than the very competitive Presidential primary of 2008 which was President Obama's first election -- against Clinton and fomer Senator John Edwards.

And, Romney battled McCain.

Elizabeth Warren Factor

The fact that Warren did not endorse wildly disappointed many Sanders supporters.

The two Senators are so politically aligned by any ideological litmus test, Warren’s lack of action disappointed many progressives.
