Holy Cross Football Holds Off Lehigh 24-17

The Holy Cross Crusaders held off Lehigh 24-17 on Saturday afternoon at Goodman Stadium.

The win improves Holy Cross to 5-4 overall and 3-0 in the Patriot League, while the Mountain Hawks drop to 4-4 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

Leading 17-7 at the half, the Crusaders opened the second half by forcing and recovering a fumble on the Lehigh 33-yard line.

Six plays later, Holy Cross quarterback Connor Degenhardt connected with wide receiver Tenio Ayeni to give Holy Cross a 24-7 lead.

From there, Holy Cross would hold on the rest of the way as the Mountain Hawks made a charge.

The Mountain Hawks responded with a 33-yard touchdown pass from Tyler Monaco to Devon Bibbens in the third quarter and a 38-yard Austin Henning field goal in the fourth quarter to make the score 24-17.

Lehigh had one final possession in the closing minutes, but senior defensive back Chris Riley intercepted a pass at the Holy Cross five-yard line with 49 seconds left to secure the victory.

The Crusaders were led by running back Domenic Cozier, who rushed 22 times for 190 yards in the game.

Holy Cross finished the day with 388 yards of total offense, including a season-high 266 rushing yards. Lehigh recorded 319 total yards on the afternoon.

Holy Cross returns to action n Saturday, November 9 when they host Lafayette.

Game time is set for 12 p.m.
