Wednesday, June 20, 2018
The McGoverns are the 9th class to be inducted and will be honored in a ceremony at the game against Yale on September 15.
Bill McGovern
Bill McGovern was a four-year starter for the Crusaders at free safety during the early 1980s. He helped lead the team to an overall record of 31-13-1 during his four years, with Holy Cross claiming the Lambert Cup and making its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs in 1983.
McGovern earned first-team All-America honors as a senior, in addition to being named All-New England once and All-ECAC twice. As a senior captain in 1984, he set a school single-season record and led the nation with 11 interceptions.
McGovern would finish his career with 24 total interceptions, which was tied for the most in Division I-AA history at the time, in addition to totaling 225 tackles and 25 pass breakups.
He went into coaching following his graduation, and is currently the linebackers coach for the New York Giants.
Rob McGovern
He totaled 443 tackles over the course of his collegiate career, including a school-record 182 tackles as a senior in 1988. McGovern was a part of teams which compiled an overall record of 34-9-1, including three Lambert Cup winners (1986, 1987, 1988), two Colonial League champions (1986, 1987) and the undefeated 1987 squad which was ranked No. 1 in the final NCAA national poll.
After playing four years in the National Football League, he pursued a legal career and is currently a trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice.
