Holy Cross Football Wraps up Season at Yankee Stadium Against Fordham

Yankee Stadium in New York has been home to world championships, historic plays and historic players, and on Saturday, November 12 it will be home to Holy Cross football's final regular season game against Fordham. 

“We are very excited to play Fordham at Yankee Stadium this week. Fordham boasts one of the most explosive offenses in the league, coupled with a very aggressive defensive unit that will challenge us on many levels. We look forward to the opportunity to close out the 2016 season with a big win in New York,” said Holy Cross head coach Tom Gilmore. 

The Crusaders enter the game with an overall record of 4-6, while Fordham enters with a 6-3 record. Holy Cross leads the all-time series 27-24, their last meeting coming in 2015 when the Rams edged Holy Cross 47-41 in overtime. 

Fordham 

The Rams come into the game sitting in second place in the Patriot League one game behind undefeated Lehigh. Coming in the Rams and are red hot, having won four of their last five games, including a 24-20 win over Colgate last week. 

Fordham is led by junior running back Chase Edmonds, who has rushed for 1,499 yards and 12 touchdowns this season while also catching 17 passes for 176 yards. Edmonds is the programs all-time leading rusher with 4,985 career rushing yards. 

Under center for Fordham is senior quarterback Kevin Anderson, who has thrown for 1,971 yards and 22 touchdowns this season, four of which have gone to sophomore receiver Austin Longi. 

Longi has hauled in 44 catches for 537 yards on year to lead the Rams. 

On the defensive side of the ball, Fordham lost four starters, Marlon Crook, Josh Klecko, Alex Washington and Tony Fox, to injuries at the beginning of the season and they have yet to return. 

The Rams defense is led by senior linebacker George Dawson who has totaled 55 tackles with seven tackles for loss, three interceptions and six pass breakups. 

Free safety Caleb Ham has added 49 tackles, three interceptions and four pass breakups. 

Holy Cross 

The Crusaders snapped a two game losing streak last week when they held on for a 21-20 win on the road against Georgetown. 

For the majority of the season, the Crusaders used three different quarterbacks, but recently Geoff Wade has started four of the last six games, completing 69 of 107 passes for 877 yards and six touchdowns. Holy Cross is 3-3 in that stretch.  

Holy Cross will say goodbye to senior wide receiver Jake Wieczorek who leads the Crusaders with 54 catches for 698 yards and five touchdowns heading into his final game.  

Another senior in his final game is receiver Brendan Flaherty, who has hauled in 49 receptions for 506 yards four touchdowns. 

On defense, junior linebacker Nick McBeath leads the Crusaders with 92 tackles and eight tackles for a loss, while senior linebacker Kyle Long has pitched in 82 tackles, five tackles for a loss and two forced fumbles. 

Defensive end, Ryan Smith leads the Crusaders defense with ten sacks and one fumble recovery on the season.
