Holy Cross Football Visits Georgetown Looking to Snap 2 Game Losing Streak

Saturday, November 05, 2016

Head Coach Tom Gilmore

The Holy Cross Crusaders football team (3-6, 1-3 PL) heads to Washington D.C. this weekend to visit (3-5, 0-3 PL) Georgetown.

“Like us, Georgetown has had injuries at some key spots, but they have shown the ability move the ball well and play great defense. We need to get back on track and execute much better this week in order to earn a victory,” said Holy Cross head coach Tom Gilmore.

The Crusaders lead the all-time series with Georgetown 17-11, including a 45-7 win last season.

Kick off is set for 1 p.m.

Georgetown

The Hoyas come into this game on a five game losing streak, and have only scored 20 points in their previous three games combine. In those same three games, they have given up 69 points.

Georgetown is led by junior running back Alex Valles, who has rushed for 384 yards and a touchdown on 76 carries this season.

At the wide receiver position, Georgetown is led by junior Justin Herrell, who has hauled in 41 catches for 292 yards and two touchdowns on the year.

On the defensive side of the ball, the Hoyas look to sophomore linebacker J’Von Butler, who has racked up a total of 64 tackles and five tackles for loss to go along with an interception and three pass breakups.

Holy Cross

The Crusaders have lost two straight and three of their last four games coming into this one. Most recently, Holy Cross lost to Colgate 26-8 last week.

The Holy Cross offense has averaged 24 points per game so far this season, despite having to use three different quarterbacks.

Against Colgate, Blaise Bell completed 15 of 22 pass for 87 yards with an interception, while Emmett Clifford completed eight of his 17 pass attempts for 93 yards and a touchdown.

Senior wide receiver, Jake Wieczorek leads the Crusaders with 51 catches for 661 yards and five touchdowns, while sophomore receiver, Richie DeNicola, ranks second with 46 catches for 450 yards and three touchdowns.

On defense, junior linebacker Nick McBeath leads the Crusaders with 82 tackles and seven tackles for a loss, while senior linebacker Kyle Long has pitched in 74 tackles, five tackles for a loss and tow forced fumbles.

Defensive end, Ryan Smith, has nine sacks and one fumble recovery on the season.

Looking Ahead to Yankee Stadium

Following the game against Georgetown, the Crusaders will wrap up their 2016 season with a game against Fordham at Yankee Stadium on Saturday, November 12.
