NEW: Patriots Safety Chung Indicted on Cocaine Possession Charge

Thursday, August 22, 2019

New England Patriots safety Patrick Chung was indicted on a charge of cocaine possession in Belknap, New Hampshire.

According to assistant attorney Keith Cormier in the Laconia Sun, Chung possessed cocaine on June 25 in Meredith, New Hampshire where he has a house.

Chung was indicted on August 8.

Chung is set to appear in Belknap Superior Court on Wednesday, August 28 at 8:30 a.m.

According to the Laconia Sun, cocaine possession in New Hampshire is a Class B felony. It carries a potential prison term of 3 1/2 to seven years.

This all comes as the Patriots are getting ready to play their third preseason game on Thursday night at Gillette Stadium.

Chung with the Patriots

Chung has played for the Patriots in nine of his ten NFL seasons, spending one year with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2013.

Chung was originally drafted by the New England in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft.

After leaving New England to sign with the Eagles in 2013, Chung was back with the Patriots in 2014 after signing as a free agent.

Last season, Chung was named co-captain for the first time in his career.

Overall, Chung has helped the Patriots win three of the last five Super Bowls.
