Red Sox Offense Struggles in 3-0 Loss to Yankees
Friday, April 28, 2017
Boston only had four hits in Wednesday night's loss to New York.
The loss drops the Red Sox to 11-10 on the season as the Yankees sweep the brief two-game series.
Pitchers Duel
The game proved to be the pitchers duel that many expected it to be.
New York’s Masahiro struck out three and retired the last 14 batters of the game on his way to his fifth career complete game. He threw only 97 pitches.
Boston’s Chris Sale gave up only one earned run in the first eight innings before giving up three straight singles in the 9th allowing the Yankees to build their 3-0 lead.
The Yankees winning run came in the fourth inning when Aaron Hicks scored on a Matt Holliday sacrifice fly to put New York up 1-0.
In the 9th, Hicks, Chase Headley and Holliday all singled to start the inning and score another run.
After Sale left the game, Heath Hembree gave up a single to Starlin Castro to put New York up 3-0.
No Run Support for Sale
The Red Sox continue to struggle to put runs on the board when Sale is on the mound.
In Sale’s five starts, the Red Sox have scored a total of four runs. The Red Sox have only scored 13 runs over their last seven games, losing five of them and getting shut out three times.
The Red Sox scored the most runs in baseball last season.
