3 Abby Kelley Students Receive Posse Scholarships

The three students, all from Worcester, are Richard Boakye, 17, who will attend Union College, Christopher Machado, 17, and Emily Stone, 17, both headed to Centre College in Kentucky. All three will receive four-year tuition.
“Richard, Christopher and Emily are exemplary students who are highly motivated and well rounded individuals. We’re so honored they’ve been recognized by the Posse Foundation for their hard work and dedication and we’re certain they will continue to serve as positive role models and leaders both in college and throughout their lives," said Christopher Kursonis, the high school principal.
This is the third year in a row that a student from Abby Kelley has received a Posse Scholarship. The three students are among 60 students the Posse Foundation selected from more than 1,400 applicants in the Boston Area.
The Students
Christopher Macahdo is a member of the National Honor Society and serves as treasurer on his student council Machado is active in Abby Kelley's International Baccalaureate Programme.
Richard Boakye is planning to study engineering at Union College and is on the soccer team at Abby Kelly.
Emily Stone was accepted into Abby Kelley's International Baccalaureate Programme for her junior and senior year. She is interested in pursuing pre-law or pre-med at Centre college.
The Posse Foundation
The Posse Foundation identifies, recruits and trains non-traditional students from urban communities with extraordinary academic and leadership skills and places them in top institutions of higher education, where they attend tuition- free.
Since 1989, the Posse Foundation has awarded $806 million to more than 6,000 students across the country.
Abby Kelley Foster Charter School
The Abby Kelley Foster Charter Public School was named after a 19th century Worcester resident who was a leader in the abolitionist and women's rights movements.
Abby Kelley foster opened in 1998 with grades K-5. There are currently 1,426 students enrolled in grades K-12.
