Massachusetts has been ranked as the second best state in the nation in regards to its school systems, according to a new study by WalletHub.

With school ready to resume in the coming weeks, WalletHub compared and contrasted the school systems in each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia on 12 key metrics, ranging from student-teacher ratios and dropout rates to test scores and bullying incident rates.

The study’s methodology was split into two rankings: a school system quality ranking and an education output and safety ranking.

How Massachusetts Ranked

Massachusetts – ranking second overall in the nation – was the second best state in regards to the school system quality rankings and 12th best in the education output and safety ranking.

Massachusetts also ranked as the best state in the nation in regards to both mathematics and reading scores. Massachusetts was also tied for the 3rd lowest bullying rate.
