Ties between Federal Grand Juries on Patriarca and Kennedy's race for US Senate

Each week accompanying the segments of the FBI files on Raymond Patriarca and expert analysis on the documents released, GoLocal provides a “cheat sheet” of some of the key elements from the documents.

Make no mistake about it, the files are layered with information about a time where the scope and reach of the Patriarca crime family permeated nearly every aspect of life in New England.

Taglianetti tells Patriarca thinks he is in trouble with the IRS. In the course of the discussion he tells Patriarca he went to see a guys at the motel he was employed at and be at him up.

Much of the IRS’ interest is tied to two loans Taglianetti has with Plantation Bank.

PAGE 21 Taglianetti “Kicked Him in The Groin”

According to FBI document Louie the Fox’s violence was more extensive. “REDACTED advised that a couple of weeks ago, Louis Taglianetti, also known as “LOUIE the Fox” called him at home and said he wanted to see him at his place of business, a “Junk” jewelry store on Pocasset Avenue, Providence, Rhode Island. He said he went to see LOUIE and the first thing he knew was that LOUIE kicked him in the groin and accused him and REDACTED of “setting him up.”

“Patriarca’s activities seem to concern gambling, attempt to corrupt officials and he furnishes general aid and counsel to assorted members of the underworld.”

On Page 54, the documents unveil, “In this connection, on July 27, 1962, the Federal Grant Jury at Boston returned indictments against seven individuals on charges of conspiracy to defraud the government and evading gambling excise taxes.”

Was the Patriarca organization going to dynamite a safe in a home?

An informant updates Patriarca that they are still working on the burglary of a house. “They discussed the use of walkie-talkies and also the use of dynamite, but they appeared to know little about the use of the same.”

PAGE 62 Bribing a MA State Trooper

According to FBI documents, it is alleged that the Lt. Governor of Massachusetts’ driver - a MA State Trooper was being bribed by Patriarca’s organization.

“..that the chauffeur (a Massachusetts State Trooper) of Lieutenant Governor EDWARD MC LAUGHLIN was being paid off by REDACTED allegedly made the statement that he had the State Police in the bag.

PAGE 67 Payoffs for Lessor Sentences

“Recently, PATRIARCA was in touch with [Henry] TAMALEO and told him that he offered several thousand dollars to obtain suspended sentences for some unknown individuals and also to obtain a sentence of a couple of years for others. PATRIARCA indicated that when you deal with the government it costs a lot of money.”
