Rodriguez has given up two or fewer runs in each of his last four starts. He gave up three singles and two walks in 7 2/3 innings en route to his 6th win of the season.
The Red Sox improve to 90-64 on the season. They maintain a four game lead over the Yankees in the AL East.
This is the second straight year in which the Red Sox reached 90 wins.
Red Sox Cruise Past Reds
Leading 1-0 after a Brock Holt sacrifice fly scored Xander Bogaerts in the first inning, the Red Sox broke the game open in the sixth.
With Holt and Andrew Benintendi on base, Moreland hit a three-run home run to center field to give the Red Sox a 4-0 lead.
Prior to the home run, Moreland was in an 0-for-19 slump. The home run was only his second of September.
Benintendi added an RBI single in the seventh to give Boston a 5-0 lead.
Series Continues
The Red Sox and Reds wrap up their series on Sunday, September 24 at 1 p.m.
The pitching matchup is Boston’s Doug Fister against Cincinnati’s Jackson Stephens.
The Red Sox (90-64) have won 90+ games in 13 of the last 20 years (1998-2017), tied with NYY for the most 90-win seasons in that time.
