Price Returns, But Red Sox Fall 5-4 to White Sox
Tuesday, May 30, 2017
In his first major league start of the season due to a strained left elbow, Price went five innings, giving up two hits and three runs while walking two and striking out four.
He was on a 90 pitch limit in the game and ended up throwing 88 pitches.
The loss is Boston's second straight and drops them to 27-23 on the season.
Bullpen Can’t Hold Lead
The Red Sox took a 4-3 lead in the 5th inning on a solo home run by Mookie Betts, before the Red Sox bullpen would give it back two innings later.
In the 7th, Red Sox pitcher Matt Barnes gave up a leadoff triple to Yolmer Sanchez, who would go on to score on a double by Kevan Smith to tie the game at 4.
With two outs, Chicago’s Melky Cabrera hit a soft line drive up the middle to score Smith and give the White Sox the 5-4 lead.
Boston nearly tied the game in the 8th, but a drive by Mitch Moreland hooked foul in right field.
Boston would go down in order in the ninth inning to end the game.
Dustin Pedroia Injured
Red Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia sprained his left wrist in the first inning on a collision at first base with Jose Abreu.
Pedroia tried to return to the game, but would end up leaving in the second inning.
Series Continues
The Red Sox and White Sox continue their series on Tuesday, May 30 with first pitch set for 8:10 p.m.
The pitching matchup is Boston’s Chris Sale against Chicago’s Jose Quintana.
